During their term in Rainbows sailors work towards achieving Yachting NZ Level 2 Sailing. Sailor's will have access to a club Plastimist (Plastic Optimist) for these coaching sessions. Rainbow coaching is a great stepping stone to developing sailing skills before committing to the purchase of your own boat.
As sailors grow in their confidence they'll be able to join in with fun afternoon races specifically for our Rainbow sailors inside the harbour on Saturday afternon between 1pm and 3pm. Joining in with club racing will enable your child to further develop their sailing skills. You can watch your child racing from the clubrooms. It’s a great time to socialise with other club families, ask questions, get hot food, a drink at the bar and enjoy our stunning view of the harbour.
When you’re ready to progress to owning a boat, our coach and club members can help with advice on purchasing an boat for your child. To move into Green fleet sailors need to have their own boat. There are often boats for sale within the club and Trade Me and Facebook Marketplace also regularly have listings.
